Lisa Matthews
Director: Specialist/Advanced Behaviour Support Practitioner/Counsellor and Neurocoach
Lisa Matthews is a highly experienced mental health and clinical counselling professional based in Sydney. She holds qualifications from the Australian College of Psychology and has further specialized in Schema Therapy, completing a certification for forensic clients under the guidance of Dr. Lars Masden, a Clinical and Forensic Psychologist. Lisa is a member of the Psychotherapy & Counselling Federation of Australia and is also trained in Work Cover consulting, with extensive experience as a Rehabilitation Counsellor.
Lisa has held various roles with Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW), managing inmates with complex mental health needs and addressing high-risk and complex behaviours. Her expertise includes conducting projects that inform CSNSW and Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) rehabilitation agencies on effective strategies for working with forensic clients in rehabilitation settings, increasing successful outcomes for those bailed to AOD programs. She has also served as a Clinical AOD Rehabilitation Counsellor at Odyssey House and as a Clinical Counsellor at Wesley Mission, focusing on family reconnections and reducing high-risk behaviours in young mothers. Additionally, Lisa has conducted extensive research on managing impulsive behaviours in individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia.
Recognized as a Senior Behaviour Support Specialist under the NDIS, Lisa specializes in conducting specialist behavioural assessments for clients presenting with complex psychiatric conditions and high-risk behaviours. She is adept at managing complex transitions, including reintegrating clients from custody or mental health wards back into the community using tailored, exposure-based approaches that address individual needs.
Lisa’s expertise is widely recognized, and she has contributed reports for various legal and medical entities, including I-Care, Local, District, and Supreme Courts, Drug Court, Federal Magistrates Court, Parole Boards, and the Mental Health Review Tribunal.
Her professional interests span general and forensic behavioural presentations, with particular expertise in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of psychiatric and behavioural conditions. These include mood disorders (depression, bipolar disorder), anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, personality disorders, ADHD, schizophrenia, substance use disorders, and problem behaviours.
